Augment alternative: what to choose since its acquisition by StayinFront?

Augment, an augmented reality platform founded in Paris in 2011, was acquired by StayinFront in May 2024 and now presents itself as a division of that company. To show your products in 3D and augmented reality without an app, on Shopify, PrestaShop or through a link, Visuality is a French alternative with a monthly subscription.

What happened to Augment?

On May 14, 2024, StayinFront, a provider of mobile retail optimization solutions, announced the acquisition of SAS Augment, a Paris-based company founded in 2011. Augment was already integrated into StayinFront's Retail Optimization Platform (ROP), within the Pitchbook module that sales teams use to present displays to store managers.

The augment.com website is still active: Augment describes itself there as "a division of StayinFront". As of our check, nothing indicates that the service has been discontinued. Its pricing page even highlights the integration with StayinFront's platform for that company's customers.

What does Augment offer today?

When should you choose Augment over Visuality?

  • You are a StayinFront customer or you use its Retail Optimization Platform: Augment is built into the Pitchbook module.
  • Your sales reps present in-store displays (stands, point-of-sale materials, fixtures) and need to capture simulations: that is what the Places feature is for.
  • You want the same provider to produce your 3D models, with a published per-model price list.
  • You need a CRM or ERP integration or team-based access management.
  • You are equipping a school or a classroom: Augment offers plans dedicated to education.
  • Your teams already use Augment every day: migration has a cost, so keep it for a real need.

When is Visuality a good alternative to Augment?

Visuality is a French SaaS platform, published by Inside Learning, that lets businesses display their products in 3D and augmented reality on iPhone and Android, with no app to install, via a link, a QR code, an iframe embed or the Shopify and PrestaShop integrations.

  • Your end customers need to see the product in their own home from a product page, a link or a QR code: with Visuality, augmented reality opens in the smartphone browser, with no app to install. The Augment documentation reviewed does not specify whether its sharing links open augmented reality directly in the browser.
  • You sell on Shopify or PrestaShop: the Shopify app and the PrestaShop module display the 3D viewer on your product pages.
  • You prefer a fixed subscription based on the number of objects rather than per-device billing.
  • You don't have 3D models: AI generation starts from a product photo.
  • You are looking for a French vendor, with an interface in French and English.

For sales reps, Visuality also offers an Android app that works offline. It does not replace Augment's in-store simulation capture features, but it is enough to present a product in 3D and augmented reality at a customer's site. Augmented reality for sales teams

How do you migrate your 3D models from Augment to Visuality?

  1. Take inventory: list the products in your Augment library and the links or QR codes already in circulation (website, catalogs, packaging).
  2. Retrieve the original 3D files: the ones you uploaded or that your 3D provider delivered. Ask Augment about the export options for your library.
  3. Convert to GLB if needed: Visuality accepts GLB and USD/USDZ. An OBJ, FBX or DAE file can be opened in Blender, a free application, then exported as glTF 2.0 in .glb format.
  4. Upload to Visuality and check the scale: each object must appear at its real size. The USDZ file for iPhone and iPad is generated automatically.
  5. Replace links and QR codes: add the viewer to your website (Shopify app, PrestaShop module or iframe) and reprint the QR codes on your materials.
  6. No file to recover? Recreate the model with AI from a photo, scan the product with RealityScan or request custom modeling on quote.
